Two Clark County outreach efforts received a total of $25,000 to support pediatric dental care.

The money was part of $121,000 awarded by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington to six organizations to help expand access to children’s oral-health care in 2011.

The Free Clinic of Southwest Washington received $20,000 to support free oral-health care at its Vancouver clinic, 4100 Plomondon St., and through its Dental Express mobile dental van.

The Clark County Dental Society received $5,000 to support Children’s Dental Health Day. The free, one-day clinic provides care for uninsured and low-income children in Clark County.

“When parents lose their insurance, dental care is often the first thing to go, yet oral health care remains critical to every child’s overall well-being,” Tom Soma, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Charities, said in a news release.

The grants support services that reached nearly 10,000 children last year.
