Franklin powers Colorado State to Cancun title

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Travis Franklin had 25 points and nine rebounds, leading Colorado State to a 63-58 victory over Southern Mississippi in the Cancun Governor’s Cup championship on Friday night.

The Rams (8-3), who trailed 29-24 at halftime, have won four straight and six of eight. They won three games in Cancun by a combined 15 points.

Andy Ogide scored 15 for Colorado State, which made 18 of 21 free throws. Franklin also had three steals.

Gary Flowers had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Golden Eagles (9-2), who had won four straight. Reserve LaShay Page made three 3-pointers and scored 14.

R.L. Horton made a 3-pointer with 2:03 left to give Southern Miss a 56-55 lead but Colorado State responded with a 7-0 run. Franklin made two foul shots, Ogide had a three-point play, and Jesse Carr capped the surge with two free throws with 31 seconds remaining.
