Prep highlights: Columbia River soccer beats Ridgefield to clinch 2A GSHL title

JP Guzman scored two goals and goalkeeper Cam Harris recorded five saves as the Columbia River boys soccer team beat Ridgefield 2-0 on Saturday to clinch the 2A Greater St. Helens League title for the Rapids.

With one league match to go, River holds a four-point lead over second-place R.A. Long. The Rapids travel to Longview to face R.A. Long on Tuesday.

River as the No. 1 seed to the district playoffs and R.A. Long as the No. 2 will host first-round district playoff matches on Saturday.

Alonzo Flores had a goal and two assists as Hockinson beat Washougal 5-4 to clinch a district playoff berth. The Hawks moved into third place with the win and can lock up the No. 3 seed with a win over Woodland on Tuesday.

Stars of the day

  • Zach Ziebell, Columbia River baseball, pitched a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts and no walks as the Rapids beat Washougal 9-0.
  • Chris Parkin, Columbia River baseball, went 3 for 4 with three runs and doubles for the Rapids.
  • Ian Johnson, La Center boys soccer, had two goals in a 3-1 win over Woodland.
  • Leilani Mays, Union girls track and field, won the 100 meters and 110-meter hurdles and finished second in the 300-meter hurdles at the Timberwolf Invite at Heritage.
