SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) — A Spokane County sheriff’s spokesman says the county bomb squad has successfully removed about a half pound of powerful homemade explosive material from an apartment in the Spokane Valley. Nearby residents who had been asked to leave their apartments Monday evening have been allowed to return.

KHQ says the material was identified as TATP.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Reagan described the material as “very potent, very unstable explosives.”

Authorities say 53-year-old John D. Raymond has been arrested on a pre-existing civil bench warrant. The man reportedly was upset about a divorce case.

Officers contacted Raymond on Monday afternoon after receiving a tip.
