VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A 22-year-old Vancouver man has been sent to prison for 18 years for beating his grandmother to death with a rock.

Daniel Marter pleaded guilty last month to first-degree murder in the Dec. 14, 2007, death of 63-year-old Maurine O’Neal. Marter told police he was living with O’Neal and “lost it” when she chastised him for being out late.

He was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years, with credit for two years time served.
