US service member killed in southern Afghanistan

KABUL (AP) — NATO says an American service member was killed in a bomb explosion in southern Afghanistan.

NATO says in a statement that the death occurred Sunday. Lt. Nico Melendez, a U.S. spokesman for the military alliance, confirmed that the service member who was killed was American.

No further details were immediately available.
