RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) — A program in Richland that specializes in children with behavioral, emotional and cognitive impairments is on shaky financial ground for its reliance on donations.
The Tri-City Herald reports that the Children’s Summer Day Treatment Program at Lourdes Counseling Center in Richland costs about $55,000 to run each summer. It serves children from the central Washington area who may be marginalized in traditional schools.
But the program is entirely funded on donations.
Dr. Benjamin Pe, the program’s program psychiatrist, says he worries every year children who may be marginilized in traditional schools may not get the help they need.
The program serves children and teenagers, between the ages of 7 and 18.
