Washington ferry fare hike postponed for review

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A ferry fare hike will likely be delayed for a review of the state ferry system prompted by an investigation by KING-TV of Seattle.

The state Transportation Commission voted last month to put off an increase scheduled for October.

The Olympian reports the commission wants to see a report from an independent group called the Passenger Vehicle Association. Gov. Chris Gregoire ordered the review after the KING-TV series reported the ferry system was wasting millions on questionable crew and boat scheduling practices.

The state auditor’s office also may conduct an audit of the ferry system.
