May-Treanor and Branagh in Huntington Beach semis

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Two-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor and partner Nicole Branagh won twice Saturday to reach the women’s semifinals of the Huntington Beach Open.

The top seeds earned a 19-21, 21-18, 15-13 win over eighth-seeded Brooke Hanson and Lisa Rutledge, and then ousted fourth-seeded Jenny Johnson Jordan and Annett Davis 21-16, 21-18 to gain Sunday’s semifinals.

May-Treanor has won the Huntington tournament five times.

In the men’s bracket, top-seeded Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser also qualified for the semis of the AVP Nivea Tour stop.

The 2008 Olympic gold medalists and three-time Huntington Beach champions beat eighth-seeded Casey Patterson and Kevin Wong 20-22, 21-14, 15-11, and fourth-seeded Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal 20-22, 21-14, 15-9.
