SEATTLE (AP) — Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and billionaire investor Warren Buffett have launched a campaign to get other American billionaires to donate at least half their wealth.

Former Gates Foundation CEO Patty Stonesifer told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Gates and Buffett have been campaigning for the past year to get others to donate the bulk of their wealth to charity.

The friends and philanthropic colleagues are people to make a pledge to donate either during their lifetime or at the time of their death.

Stonesifer says the campaign has been embraced by the handful of billionaires approached so far. And four wealthy couples have already announced their pledges.
