WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France has advanced to Wimbledon’s second round by beating U.S. qualifier Robert Kendrick.

The 10th-seeded Tsonga eliminated the 161st-ranked Kendrick 7-6 (2), 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-4 in about 212 hours Tuesday.

It was Tsonga’s first match since the 2008 Australian Open runner-up quit because of a back injury after losing the opening set in the fourth round at the French Open.

Kendrick, of Orlando, Fla., has not won a tour-level, main-draw match in 2010.
