GLADSTONE, Ore. (AP) — A 16-year-old boy drowned within sight of three lifeguards at a popular swimming spot on the Clackamas River.

The Oregonian reports that the teen was about 200 yards from all the lifeguards.

The boy’s death marked the first drowning at the High Rocks spot since 2002, when lifeguards were

Clackamas Fire District 1 spokesman Steve McAdoo says dive teams pulled the boy about a quater of a mile downstream soon after and attempted to resuscitate him.
