A newly formed advisory committee will meet for the first time today to discuss the particulars of a new light-rail extension from the Columbia River, through downtown Vancouver to Clark College.

The 23-member Vancouver Transit Advisory Committee, formed by the bistate Columbia River Crossing project, will convene from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Marshall Community Center, 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.

The group is expected to meet monthly for about a year to help the CRC, city of Vancouver and C-Tran develop a Conceptual Design Report guiding the development of light rail in Vancouver.

The group will cover design and aesthetics of light-rail stations, streetscape, park-and-rides and security.

Members of the group include property owners along the light-rail alignment, representatives of business and neighborhood associations, transit-dependent citizens, commuters and design-oriented specialists.
