Most legislators representing Clark County have declined the $90 per day payments available to lawmakers during this month’s special session.

The per diem payments are intended to cover housing, meals and other living expenses incurred by citizen legislators while they are in Olympia doing the public’s business. But many lawmakers have taken time away from Olympia over the past week as Democratic leaders have struggled to find agreement on a 2010-11 budget and revenue package.

Republican Senators Don Benton, Jim Honeyford and Joe Zarelli and Democrat Craig Pridemore have requested no per diem payments.

On the House side, Republicans Jaime Herrera and Ed Orcutt and Democrats Jim Jacks and Tim Probst have requested no per diem payments. Republican David Taylor has requested no per diem payments on four specific days.

Reps. Jim Moeller and Deb Wallace, both Democrats, and Republican Bruce Chandler have submitted no such requests.
