Friday was a record-setting day for Camas pitcher Taylor Williams.

But it wasn’t a baseball championship day for the Papermakers.

Leko Galusha pitched a two-hit shutout as Union won 1-0 at Camas and kept the Papermakers from wrapping up the top seed in the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League district playoffs.

Camas (11-3 in league) can still seal the league’s No. 1 seed with a win today at Hudson’s Bay. Should the Papermakers lose today, Columbia River (11-3) would take the outright title with a win today over Union. If the Titans (10-4) win today and the Papermakers lose, there would be a three-way tie for the league championship.

Union plays at Columbia River at 2 p.m. The Camas-Hudson’s Bay game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Propstra Stadium.

Galusha struck out seven and walked one in twirling his two-hitter. He worked out of a tight spot in the fifth, when Camas’ Drew Drlik hit a one-out triple. But a strikeout followed by a ground out stranded Drlik.

Union scored in the top of the fifth. Garret Speyer hit a grounder through the infield and Michael Takayoshi scored from second, narrowly beating the throw to the plate.

Williams, a senior, struck out six to surpass the Camas career strikeout mark. He now has 142 in his career. According to Papermakers’ head coach Joe Hallead, Michael DeVaney, a 2000 graduate who is now a Camas assistant coach, held the previous mark with 138 strikeouts.

Columbia River 4, Prairie 2 — The Chieftains pulled into a first-place tie with Camas with the win over the visiting Falcons. Steven Porter hit a three-run home run with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning to cap a four-run inning as River overcame a 2-0 deficit.

Christian Bannister struck out eight in pitching all seven innings for the win. He allowed five hits and walked four.

Jake Ripley had three hits for Prairie.

Hudson’s Bay 11, Fort Vancouver 1 — Donald Shaffer had three hits, including a double, and Danny Christensen got the pitching win for the Eagles.

Skyview 5, Kelso 4 — The Storm scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and Kody Watts went the distance, beating first-place Kelso.

Ellis Henderson drove in two runs.

Watts, who struck out six batters, also drove in two runs.

Evergreen 5, Battle Ground 4 (9 innings) — Tommy Thorpe struck out the side in the top of the ninth inning and then knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the inning for Evergreen.

Austin Hadley was 2 for 5 with a double and knocked in two runs in Evergreen’s four-run fourth inning.

Heritage 10, Mountain View 4 — Alex Foulon went 4 for 4 and pitched a complete game for the Timberwolves. Riley O’Dell was 3 for 3 with a triple and a double for Heritage. Mountain View’s Cameron Westphal had three hits including a home run.

SOFTBALL

Evergreen 12, Skyview 2 — It was close. And then it wasn’t.

Skyview held a 2-1 lead before Evergreen scored 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Bobbie Chulich was 2 for 4 and drove in three runs for the Plainsmen. Ashley Crouse and Shannon Miller drove in two runs. Miller went the distance for the pitching win.

La Center 8, White Salmon 0 — Kylie Monson struck out 16 in a one-hit shutout in the Class 1A Trico League game. Hannah Rengo was 3 for 4 with two RBI for the Wildcats.

BOYS SOCCER

Skyview 4, Evergreen 2 — The Skyview Storm picked up their biggest win of the season and kept Evergreen from clinching the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League boys soccer title Friday night.

Anthony Valle scored the tying goal early in the second half, then converted the go-ahead goal late in the match. James Nosack provided an insurance goal moments later.

Evergreen, ranked fourth in the state by the Seattle Times, lost for the first time this season in GSHL play.

“Evergreen came out tough. I think we did, too,” Skyview coach Jenn Alleyn said. “We were pretty equally matched, and we just came out on top.”

“They just played better than us,” Evergreen coach Keenan Burris said. “No excuses.”

Septi Danciu scored a goal and assisted on the other for Evergreen in the first half, but the Plainsmen were shut out in the second half.

Alleyn credited the play of Mikhail Wingate-Pearse. The defensive midfielder “completely controlled the middle” and played an “outstanding game.”

Skyview remains in second place, a game behind the Plainsmen.

Heritage 3, Kelso 0 — Tarik Subasic scored twice and Oscar Ulloa had a goal and assist for the victorious Timberwolves.

Battle Ground 1, Mountain View 1 — Christian Gonzalez scored for the Tigers and Jeff Garbarino converted a penalty kick for the Thunder in the draw.

Union 3, Fort Vancouver 1 — Mark Kim and Huson Poissant scored in the second half, breaking a 1-1 tie for the Titans.

Camas 9, Prairie 0 — Connor Valenter scored three goals and added two assists as the Papermakers continued to roll. Chris Miller and Drew White each had two goals.

Columbia River 4, Hudson’s Bay 2 — Steven Hughes had two goals and an assist, and Thiesen Chang scored twice for the Chieftains.
