A fire damaged goods in the basement of a Vancouver apartment complex early Monday morning, according to a resident at Uptown Villa, 2218 Broadway St.

The fire was reported at about 12:30 a.m. It was contained to the basement and put out by a small water extinguisher, said Cpt. Kevin Murray, a spokesman with the Vancouver Fire Department.

The burn was in a small laundry and storage area. The cause is unknown.

Damage is estimated at about $1,000.
