THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — PSV Eindhoven midfielder Orlando Engelaar is among four players cut from the Netherlands’ soccer roster as the Dutch team got down to FIFA’s 23-man limit.
AZ Alkmaar forward Jeremain Lens, Ajax defender Vurnon Anita and Feyenoord defender Ron Vlaar also have been dropped by coach Bert van Marwijk.
Anita’s omission came just a day after he made his international debut as a second-half substitute during the Netherlands 2-1 exhibition win over Mexico.
Engelaar was part of the Netherlands’ team at 2008 European Championship.
The Netherlands will play in Group E with Denmark, Japan and Cameroon.
