PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Preliminary results from a telephone poll of Oregon voters show that Democrat Ron Wyden ran strongly among most groups in Oregon, and particularly among women, in winning re-election to the U.S. Senate.

The preliminary poll results showed Wyden led Republican Jim Huffman by more than 2 to 1 among women voters Tuesday, and he was also heavily favored by most income groups as he won his third full term in the Senate.

The results also showed Wyden drew strong support in the state’s most populous regions — Multnomah County, the Portland suburbs and the Willamette Valley.

Huffman, who teaches at Lewis & Clark Law School, was favored heavily by those who consider themselves conservative.

The telephone poll of 1,052 people was conducted for The Associated Press by Edison Research from Oct. 22 to Oct. 31.
