CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Chris Wright had 18 points and No. 20 Georgetown held off Wofford’s second-half rally to reach the Charleston Classic title game with a 74-59 victory over the Terriers on Friday.
The Hoyas improved to 4-0 for the third time in the past four seasons. Not that it came easy against Wofford, last year’s Southern Conference champs.
Georgetown led 39-24 on Julian Vaughn’s jam to start the second half. But the Terriers (1-3) rallied with a 17-7 run over the next seven minutes to get within 46-41.
That’s when Wright regained control for Georgetown with a 3-pointer. By the time he added three foul shots on consecutive possessions, the Hoyas were ahead 59-45 and cruising.
Wofford’s three losses this season have come to teams from power conferences — at Minnesota of the Big 10, at Clemson of the ACC and to the Hoyas of the Big East.
