PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — More snow and cold is forecast for much of Oregon, but the National Weather Service expects improving conditions by Thanksgiving.

A winter storm warning is in effect through 10 p.m. Monday with 3-to-5 inches of snow in the western Columbia River Gorge.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation said freezing temperatures will make commuting hazardous in the metro area. Officials urged drivers to be prepared with a winter weather plan that includes warm clothing, chains, an emergency kit and alternate routes.

Advisories are in effect for other parts of the state and forecasters expect 8-to-16 inches in the Cascades by Tuesday.

After freezing temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday, forecasters expect slightly warmer temperatures and a chance of rain on Thanksgiving Day in western Oregon, while eastern Oregon may remain below freezing.
