OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Firefighters in Lacey, Wash., near Olympia went into Chambers Lake on Wednesday to rescue a dog who fell through unstable ice while chasing a duck.

The dog named Kodiak and his owner had been out walking when he set out after the duck.

KING-TV says Lacey Fire District No. 3 recently trained for ice rescues and this was an initial opportunity to practice those skills. Firefighters used some new ice rescue equipment as they wrangled Kodiak safely back to shore.
