WOLVERHAMPTON, England (AP) — American goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann has been dropped as starting goalkeeper by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wayne Hennessey took as the start for Saturday’s home match against Sunderland, which Wolves won 3-2 for only its third victory of the Premier League season.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy, whose side is 19th in the 20-team league, says Hahnemann will stay on the bench for Saturday’s match at Blackburn.

McCarthy says “Marcus has been brilliant … I just thought it was time to give Wayne a chance … He has to be given another chance.”

McCarthy says Hahnemann, who has eight appearances for the U.S. national team, took the decision well and was supportive of Hennessey.
