PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Republican legislative leader is asking for a recount in a close southern Oregon race that could determine control of the state Senate.

Senate GOP leader Ted Ferrioli announced Tuesday that he’ll seek the recount in Senate District 3, where Democratic incumbent Alan Bates leads Republican Dave Dotterrer by 275 votes out of nearly 49,000 ballots cast.

The districts stretches from Medford to the California border.

Senate Republicans will pay for the recount.
