The Columbian
Published: October 28, 2010, 12:00am

When, where: 8 p.m. Friday at McKenzie Stadium

Records: Skyview (6-2, 3-0); Union (7-1, 3-0); 4A GSHL league game

Internet radio: www.sportsbeatradio.com

Game notes: This is the third meeting between the two schools — Union won the first two — but the first as 4A Greater St. Helens League rivals. … Skyview has won the past two 4A GSHL titles … Union won the past two 3A GSHL titles before moving to the 4A this season. … The winner of today’s game is the 4A GSHL champion and will open play at 4A state preliminary game at home next week against Todd Beamer of Federal Way. … The loser is the No. 2 seed and must travel for a difficult state preliminary game against the loser of today’s Skyline-Bothell game. … Skyview has scored at least 42 points in its past four games. … Union’s defense has not allowed a touchdown since the Sept. 17 game against Westview of Beaverton, Ore., a span of 22 consecutive quarter. The Titans have recorded three shutouts over that span. … So the matchup figures to be Skyview’s offense against Union’s defense. … But we shouldn’t overlook Union’s offense, which has improved as it has become more healthy. The Titans have averaged 53 points in its past three victories. … And Skyview’s defense has improve, holding an opponents to an average of 5 points in its past three games.

The Columbian’s take: A high-scoring game figures to benefit the Storm. A low-scoring game figures to benefit the Titans. As good as Skyview’s offense has been, we believe Union’s defense is better. PICK: Union
