BELFAIR, Wash. (AP) — Firefighters have removed about 50 locks from Belfair fire hydrants under orders from the Kitsap County fire marshal.

The Kitsap Sun reports the action Tuesday was a relief to residents who feared firefighters would be delayed in an emergency.

The Belfair Water District had locked the hydrants in mid-July to prevent thefts. Manager Dave Tipton says the district is contemplating its next step.
