Div. II Tusculum routs Western Carolina 54-30

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Bo Cordell threw for 410 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for one as Tusculum defeated Western Carolina 54-30 on Saturday night.

The Pioneers (3-0), a Division II school, jumped out to a 27-0 lead as the teams played for the first time since 1949.

After Justin Arrington scooped up a Western Carolina fumble at the 10-yard line and ran it 90 yards for a touchdown, Cordell had TD passes of 7 yards to Calvin Britt and 29 yards to Rashaad Carter. He then scored on a 1-yard rush.

Western Carolina (0-2) used two touchdown passes by Zac Brindise, who threw for 304 yards and four TDs, to get to 27-14 with 11:18 left in the third quarter.

Cordell answered with a 39-yard TD to Britt, and Jason Muehling scored on a 60-yard fumble return. Cordell’s 73-yarder to Xzanvion Smith made it 51-14 with 9:50 left.

The Catamounts, however, outgained the Pioneers 478 to 452 yards.
