A transportation expert with a background in smart-growth issues nationwide will be the featured speaker at a free public event hosted Thursday by a local company campaigning against light rail and tolls on a new Interstate 5 bridge across the Columbia River.

Wendell Cox will speak during the event at LifePoint campus, 305 N.E. 192nd Ave. in Vancouver. The forum is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Cox, based in St. Louis, is a senior fellow of The Heartland Institute, a libertarian think tank based in Chicago. He will present information about light rail and the effect of tolls.

The event will be sponsored by U.S. Digital. Company owner David Madore is co-chairman of notolls.com, a political action group formed to fight light rail and tolls as part of the Columbia River Crossing project.
