MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — The NCAA has decided Middle Tennessee State quarterback Dwight Dasher must sit out four games and repay a $1,500 loan to become eligible again.

The NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff ruled Thursday that Dasher violated preferential treatment rules by receiving a loan from someone in the community. Middle Tennessee has told the NCAA Dasher has repaid the loan.

Dasher already has missed the first two games this season for the Blue Raiders (1-1).

Athletic director Chris Massaro says Middle Tennessee respects the decision but is appealing. Massaro says they believe Dasher deserves a three-game suspension instead of four.
