CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Miami has hired Shawn Eichorst as its new athletic director in a move that came faster than the Hurricanes originally expected.

Eichorst was Wisconsin’s deputy athletic director since 2009. He’s also been an associate AD at South Carolina and the athletic director at Division III’s Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Eichorst replaces Kirby Hocutt, who left for Texas Tech. When Hocutt departed, the Hurricanes said they were aiming to have a new athletic director in place by the fall semester.

Eichorst will immediately begin overseeing Miami’s search for a new men’s basketball coach, a process that began a little over a week ago when Frank Haith left for Missouri.

Eichorst played football for Wisconsin-Whitewater, and has a law degree from Marquette.
