PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police have arrested a man suspected of being the hit-and-run driver who killed one bicycle rider and injured a second in southeast Portland.
Police booked 18-year-old Ashawntae Rosemon into the Multnomah County Detention Center on Friday on charges that include manslaughter and driving under the influence.
A police officer was flagged down about 1 a.m. and directed to the scene. Medics pronounced the downed cyclist dead. The injured cyclist, a 17-year-old, is expected to recover.
Police found the suspect vehicle abandoned and started searching for the driver.
Traffic Division Lt. Eric Schober told The Oregonian the dead bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe head trauma. The injured 17-year-old was wearing a helmet.
