ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Detroit rookie defensive lineman Nick Fairley is walking with a protective boot on his injured left foot.

Fairley was at practice Tuesday and says he’s “taking it day by day” as he recovers from surgery. Fairley, a first-round draft pick out of Auburn, could give the Lions a formidable pair of defensive tackles along with Ndamukong Suh (ehn-DAHM’-uh-kehn soo).

Detroit has had its share of injuries during training camp, but the Lions looked impressive last week in beating Cincinnati 34-3 in their first preseason game. Detroit travels to play Cleveland on Friday night.
