SAMMAMISH, Wash. (AP) — A television station reports that a Sammamish, Wash., man crawled on his hands and knees to rescue an elderly neighbor trapped inside a burning home.
KING-TV says (http://bit.ly/qotjrO) the rescuer was outside Wednesday evening when he heard the older man’s wife screaming that her husband was still inside the home.
Other neighbors reportedly also helped.
Firefighters say the man in his 80s likely would have died had neighbors not rescued him.
The older man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.
The home was destroyed. The cause was not immediately known.
Sammamish is an east Seattle suburb.
