MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez says he expects to start a rehab assignment at Class-A Wisconsin as soon as Saturday after breaking his collarbone just over a month ago.

Gomez was expected to miss six weeks after breaking the bone diving for a catch in a win over Arizona on July 20, but he’s progressed better than expected and manager Ron Roenicke didn’t rule out the defensive specialist’s return before Sept. 1. The Brewers’ minor league affiliate in Appleton plays its final home series of the year through Tuesday.

Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks says he ran on the field for the first time since severely spraining his left ankle on July 27. Weeks says he’s progressing, but there’s no timetable for when he will return.
