A house-office near PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center was heavily damaged Friday afternoon.

A passerby called to report a fire at 5:32 p.m. The first engine crew arrived at 605 N.E. 92nd Ave. six minutes later to find heavy flames inside, said Capt. Dave James with the Vancouver Fire Department.

The first crew radioed that they would attack the flames defensively, streaming in water from outside only.

They also said the house appeared to be vacant, and said they needed to watch adjoining homes to protect them from flames.

When the second crew arrived, they were able to go inside and, using big pole hooks, pull the ceiling down and douse flames in the attic.

The house is owned by PeaceHealth and was being used as office space, James said.

The cause and an estimate of dollar damage were not yet available Friday night.
