Battle Ground — A 15-member team of Battle Ground city employees raised more than $2,500 for the American Cancer Society at the Battle Ground Relay for Life on Aug. 21-22. The team, Battle for a Cure, held fundraising events throughout 2011, received donations from city staff and generous support from Battle Ground businesses Distinctively Home, Battle Ground Produce and Scentsy representative Amber Crouch. In addition to being one of the top 10 fundraisers, Battle for a Cure was honored with the Most Enthusiastic Team Award and took first place in the Cardboard Car Lap with its impressive rendition of a 1960s hippie van complete with peace-loving passengers. “On the hottest day of the year, we managed to have team members on the track all 24 hours. We are very happy with the success of the event and its outcome in support of the American Cancer Society,” said co-captain Chris Doerschuk.
