Preliminary homebuilding activity increased a bit from December to January within Vancouver’s urban growth boundary, although builders were still less busy than they were a year ago.

A report from Vancouver’s Community Development Department showed the city received 13 applications for single-family homebuilding permits in January, an increase from eight permits issued in December.

In January 2010, Vancouver issued 18 permits to build houses during a period when first-time and move-up buyers were eligible for federal tax credits of between $6,500 and $8,000.
