Tennessee Tech edges Tennessee State 61-59

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Zac Swansey made a jump shot with 3 seconds left to give Tennessee Tech a 61-59 win over Tennessee State on Monday night.

The Golden Eagles (14-11, 10-6 Ohio Valley Conference) trailed 57-54 with 2:08 to play and finished on a 7-2 run. Kevin Murphy sparked the spurt with a 3-pointer for the game’s eighth tie, and followed with a jumper for a 59-57 Tennessee Tech lead with 1:19 to play.

Kenny Moore made two free throws for the Tigers (11-14, 9-7) to tie it, but Tennessee Tech still had 18 seconds to get a shot off.

Murphy finished with 24 points and Jud Dillard 13 for the Golden Eagles, who snapped a two-game skid in the series.

Tennessee Tech scored 19 points off 15 turnovers and outrebounded the Tigers 34-26, with 13 coming on the offensive end, leading to 10 second-chance points.

Jacquan Nobles led Tennessee State with 17 points and Wil Peters added 12.
