Boys Basketball Roundup: Fourth-quarter run gets Evergreen past Union 65-59

After trailing for most of the game, the Evergreen boys basketball team opened the fourth quarter on an 11-0 run and went on to beat visiting Union 65-59 in a non-league game Thursday.

Evergreen (11-5) was behind 35-28 at the half, and 50-45 after three quarters before catching fire.

In the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, Arthur Ban scored on a layup, Dez Daniel made a 3-pointer, and a steal by Damarien Walden led to a Landon Rayner 3-ball and suddenly Evergreen was in front.

Rayner, who scored a game-high 19 points, made another 3 with 5 minutes to play to make the score 56-50.

Daniel finished with 18 points, Ban had 15 and Walden 10 for the Plainsmen.

Union (6-10) was led in scoring by Kody Holcomb’s 17 points and Paxton Heitsch with 15.

BATTLE GROUND 66, HERITAGE 57 — After a tight first half, Battle Ground surged ahead with an 18-9 third quarter to win the non-league game at Heritage.

Trey Spencer scored 20 of his game-high 30 points in the first half for the Tigers (6-9 overall), who trailed 33-30 at halftime. He also had 10 rebounds and five assists.

Austin Ralphs also had a double-double with 14 points — 10 in the fourth quarter — and 10 rebounds for Battle Ground.

Heritage (2-15) was led in scoring by Jose Zacarias with 19 points, and Delorian Holmes had 10.

STEVENSON 76, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 49 — Chris Blackledge scored 28 points and his seven of the Bulldogs’ 11 3-pointers in a Trico League home win.

Blackledge scored 22 points in the first half as Stevenson blitzed to a 49-14 halftime lead.

Casen Bach added 24 points for Stevenson, which improved to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Mason Hamilton scored 19 points for the Bruins (4-12, 1-4).

SETON CATHOLIC 78, CASTLE ROCK 55 — The Cougars lit it up from beyond the 3-point arc, making 15 triples in their Trico League win over visiting Castle Rock.

Kaiden Wilson scored a game-high 30 points, and Tyler Tran had 21 points — all on 3-pointers with five coming in the fourth quarter — for Seton Catholic.

Jacob La Fever had 14 points and Owen Langdon 12 for Castle Rock.
