Proposed Portland bike path could be tuneful

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland’s transit agency is considering a unique art installation for the planned Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail bridge over the Willamette River.

The Oregonian reports that TriMet has proposed building a “sonic bike path” across the car-free bridge. An intricate sequence of concrete grooves would play a melody when bicycle tires roll over them. The tune? Part of Simon and Garfunkel’s “59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy).”

TriMet is working with two artists on a prototype. But The Oregonian says some cyclists aren’t too keen on the idea, saying bicycle commuters might quickly get tired of the tune.
