STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) — Brandon Evans scored 20 points and Aaron Brackett hit the game-winning shot with 17 seconds left to give North Carolina-Greensboro a 57-56 victory over Georgia Southern on Thursday night.

Brackett, who scored eight points, took a pass from Kyle Randall and made a jumper to help the Spartans (6-22, 6-11 Southern Conference) stop their four-game losing streak.

Jelani Hewitt gave Georgia Southern (5-25, 1-16) a 56-53 lead on a free throw with 34 seconds to play, but Evans made a layup just 8 seconds later and the Eagles then turned the ball over, setting up Brackett’s heroics.

It was UNC Greensboro’s only lead of the game after rallying from a 13-point first-half deficit.

Evans was 10 of 11 from the free-throw line and Trevis Simpson added 13 points for the Spartans.

Rory Spencer scored 11 points and Eric Ferguson and Ben Drayton added 10 each for the Eagles.
