Washington state employment peaked in 2008

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The governor’s Office of Financial Management reports state government employment in Washington peaked in 2008 and has been shrinking since then.

The Olympian reports full-time-equivalent position in all agencies and higher education institutions totaled 116,104 in November 2008. That number fell to 110,214 last November.

The drop of nearly 6,000 positions was more than 5 percent.
