Ball State defeats Western Michigan 72-63

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Jesse Berry scored 15 points to lead Ball State to a 72-63 victory over Western Michigan on Wednesday night.

Berry, a freshman, was 4 for 5 from 3-point range for the Cardinals (10-4, 2-0 Mid-American). Jauwan Scaife scored 14 points and Jarrod Jones added 12 for Ball State.

Flenard Whitfield was the top scorer for Western Michigan (8-7, 1-1) with 15 points. Matt Stainbrook had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Broncos, and Mike Douglas scored 13.

Stainbrook scored the game’s first six points and Western Michigan opened a 10-2 lead, but the Cardinals later went on a 27-5 run and owned a 38-26 lead at halftime. The Broncos could only get as close as six points in the second half.
