UTSA beats Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 55-47

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Melvin Johnson III scored 19 points and UTSA snapped a five-game losing streak, beating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 55-47 Wednesday night.

Devin Gibson added 17 for the Roadrunners (7-7, 1-1 Southland) and Jeromie Hill had 13. The trio scored all but six of UTSA’s points.

Johnson had a career-high seven rebounds, Gibson was 9 for 9 from the free-throw line and led UTSA with eight rebounds and Hill also grabbed seven boards.

Chris Mast led the Islanders (5-11, 0-2) with 16 points. Demond Watt had nine points and 11 rebounds for Corpus Christi.

Gibson scored 15 points in the second half — half of UTSA’s 30 — and made six free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.
