TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Robert Nyakundi hit a 3-pointer from the left corner with 1.1 seconds left as Southern Methodist stunned Tulsa 59-58 on Wednesday night.

The open 3-pointer was the only basket the Mustangs (12-8, 3-3 C-USA) scored in the final 8:20, yet the Golden Hurricane (10-10, 3-3) could not take advantage. Tulsa missed seven free throws in the final 8:33 and made just three baskets of its own.

Justin Hurtt made a conventional 3-point play with 8.8 seconds left to put Tulsa ahead 58-56.

Papa Dia scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead SMU while Jeremiah Samarrippas scored 13 points and Nyakundi finished with 10.

The win snapped a 10-game winning streak for Tulsa against the Mustangs and was the first victory for SMU coach Matt Doherty in 11 tries against his former assistant Doug Wojcik, who coached for Doherty at Notre Dame and North Carolina.
