PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A crash left 900 feet of tire marks and a burning car in the parking lot of the Oregon tourist destination Multnomah Falls.

The Oregon State Police say the 1991 Subaru driven by 30-year-old Rene Zavala was eastbound on Interstate Highway 84 when it pulled into the falls parking lot, crashed into a road sign and struck a parked semi-trailer.

Zavala and a passenger who was unidentified by police escaped the vehicle before it caught fire.

Both men work at a ranch in Mosier, Ore. Their injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening.

Zavala faces drunken driving, reckless driving and assault charges.
