SEATTLE (AP) — Authorities say that a 32-year-old man was shot and killed by a Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputy after a fight on a freeway overpass.

Sgt. Robert Goetz says the 25-year veteran stopped his cruiser to talk to the man at an overpass on Saturday morning. When the deputy approached the man, he charged, threatening to kill the officer.

Goetz says a fight ensued and at some point the deputy fired his gun, hitting the man in the torso. The man later died at Harborview Medical Center. The man’s hometown has not been confirmed.

The deputy will be put on administrative leave as is routinely done while an investigation is done.

This is the second officer involved shooting by Snohomish County deputies in as many weeks. Last week, a deputy shot a man inside a home near Bothell during a disturbance call. The man later died.
