Clark County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Tuesday on suspicion of murder after he allegedly shot another man with a bow and arrow during a fight in the Minnehaha area.

Deputies responded at 6:44 a.m. to the 3200 block of Northeast Petticoat Lane. A man identified as Richard Vanderhoek called 911 to report he had shot another man with a bow and arrow, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Arriving deputies found a man dead with an arrow in his chest in the driveway of a residence, the sheriff’s office said.

A witness told deputies that they saw two men fighting in front of the house shortly after 6 a.m. The witness said one man walked away and another followed in a vehicle. Deputies said the two men apparently returned to the property and began fighting again before one was fatally shot.

Vanderhoek identified the first name of the man he shot and told deputies he was an acquaintance. Vanderhoek was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries, the news release states.

Investigators arrested Vanderhoek on suspicion of second-degree murder.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity.

The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate.
