GSTAAD, Switzerland (AP) — Third-seeded Mikhail Youzhny of Russia was the first player to advance to the Swiss Open quarterfinals as rain affected play Wednesday.

Youzhny beat Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-3, 6-2 in the only second-round match completed.

Marcel Granollers, the No. 8 seed from Spain, took a 6-1, 4-3 lead over Russia’s Igor Andreev as afternoon rain ended play in the clay-court Roy Emerson Arena.

Seventh-seeded Pablo Andujar of Spain was beaten by Matthias Bachinger of Germany, 6-1, 6-4, in the final first-round match.
