LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison says he should have used a “better vocabulary” when expressing his frustration toward NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a magazine article released earlier this month.
The four-time Pro Bowler used an anti-gay slur to describe Goodell in the Men’s Journal article, a comment Harrison called “inappropriate in the least.” Harrison says he knows he attacked Goodell on a personal level with his “careless words.”
Harrison hasn’t heard from the commissioner’s office and isn’t sure whether he’ll be disciplined for his comments, adding he won’t decide whether to fight any potential punishment until it is levied.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and running back Rashard Mendenhall, whom Harrison criticized in the article, say they’ve cleared the air with him and expect no issues going forward.
