James Madison beats Maine 5-2 at NCAAs

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Jake Lowery drove in three runs and James Madison beat Maine 5-2 in an elimination game Sunday at the Chapel Hill Regional.

Evan Scott (4-3) struck out four and scattered four hits over 7 1-3 innings for the Dukes (42-28). They earned a rematch with regional host North Carolina in the championship round. The Tar Heels beat them 14-0 a night earlier.

Cole McInturff had three hits and an RBI for James Madison. Lowery hit a two-run double during a four-run second, and added a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the eighth to restore the Dukes’ three-run lead.

James Madison took control with three consecutive run-scoring hits off starter A.J. Bazdanes in the second, capped by Lowery’s double.

Joey Martin gave the Black Bears (33-24) an early lead with a run-scoring single in the first. Michael Fransoso made it 4-2 with an RBI triple in the third.
